Things to Love About ADHD – Part 1
Like strengths can turn to weaknesses, perceived weaknesses can be strengths. Context matters.
All too frequently ADHD traits may be considered a weakness. In the next two posts we’re going to highlight just some of the benefits. Many people with ADHD learn to love their brain and how it functions differently. Different can be good.Passion
People with ADHD have a big heart. They feel emotions intensely and are passionate about people, topics, fairness – you name it. In relationships ADHD affections run deep so love isn’t just love, it’s big love, and loyalty is king.
This depth of feeling can also be seen in their strong sense of compassion. Their drive to help is big, and with compassion comes a strong sense of fairness. They know what it’s like to need help and they know that fair doesn’t mean equal as they experience many things in life that could be termed unfair.
Personality
People tend to notice people with ADHD. Their personality may be quiet or gregarious, but get them talking on the right subject and look out! Their energy is undeniable.
Having a different perspective on the world, they share creative ideas and views leading to interesting and engaging conversations.
Add to that, their tendency for impulsivity and lack of a verbal filter and you often find yourself in very humorous interactions. Yes, an ADHD personality in full swing can be captivating!
Playfulness
There’s a playful nature to people with ADHD which makes them great problem solvers – problems are puzzles! They want to make a difference and help people and can be very generous in doing so. They want what they do to matter.
Life with an ADHD person also brings spontaneity and adventure. Low inhibitions and impulsivity make for memorable occasions, and they can even surprise themselves. So, embrace the unexpected. That’s part of the fun!
